About Neermahal
Neermahal, meaning “Water Palace,” is Tripura’s most iconic architectural landmark and the largest water palace in Eastern India. Situated in the middle of the picturesque Rudrasagar Lake near Melaghar, the palace was built between 1930 and 1938 by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur as a royal summer retreat. The palace beautifully blends Hindu and Mughal architectural styles, featuring elegant domes, balconies, towers, bridges, and spacious courtyards. Accessible only by boat, Neermahal offers visitors a unique and memorable experience surrounded by the tranquil waters of Rudrasagar Lake. The palace is especially enchanting during sunrise and sunset, when its reflection on the lake creates breathtaking scenery. Every year, the famous Neermahal Water Festival and Boat Race attract thousands of tourists, making it one of Tripura’s most visited heritage and tourism destinations.
