Pilak Archaeological Site is one of Tripura’s most remarkable heritage destinations, renowned for its ancient archaeological remains dating from the 8th to the 12th century AD. The site showcases the harmonious coexistence of Hinduism and Buddhism through an extraordinary collection of stone sculptures, terracotta plaques, stupas, and temple ruins. Excavations carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India have uncovered numerous artefacts depicting Hindu deities such as Shiva, Surya, Vishnu, and Durga, alongside Buddhist sculptures representing the Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana traditions. Influences from the Pala dynasty, Gupta art, and Southeast Asian architecture are evident throughout the site, making Pilak an important centre for history, archaeology, and cultural tourism.
