About Dumboor Lake
Dumboor Lake is one of Tripura’s most breathtaking natural attractions and among the largest freshwater lakes in Northeast India. Covering an area of approximately 41 square kilometres, the lake derives its name from the small drum (“Dumboor”) associated with Lord Shiva due to its distinctive shape. Formed by the confluence of the Raima and Sarma rivers, the lake is surrounded by lush green hills and is dotted with 48 picturesque islands, creating a spectacular landscape for visitors.
The lake is a paradise for nature lovers, photographers, birdwatchers, and adventure seekers. Boat cruises across the crystal-clear waters offer stunning views of the surrounding forests and islands, with Narkel Kunja (Coconut Island) being the most popular attraction. During winter, migratory birds flock to the lake, making it a prime destination for birdwatching. Nearby lies Tirthamukh, the sacred origin of the Gomati River, where the famous Pous Sankranti Mela is celebrated every January, attracting thousands of pilgrims and tourists.
